Average Order Value (AOV) Calculator
AOV is the average dollar amount of each order. Higher AOV = more profit per ad dollar, because fixed costs (ad CPM, processing fees) spread across more revenue.

Average Order Value: The Lever Most Dropshippers Never Pull
Average Order Value (AOV) is the average dollar amount of every order placed in your store. It is, alongside conversion rate, one of the two levers you can pull to grow revenue without spending more on ads. Doubling your conversion rate is hard — it requires deep CRO work, A/B testing, and time. Doubling your AOV is comparatively easy: it requires product bundles, upsells, and a free-shipping threshold. Most dropshippers obsess over traffic and ignore AOV, which is why their ROAS keeps falling even as their ad spend rises.
The Formula
AOV = Total Revenue ÷ Total Orders
Why AOV Drives ROAS
Here is the math that explains everything. Suppose your CAC (cost per acquisition) is $12 and your AOV is $30. Your ad cost as % of revenue is 40%. Now suppose you double AOV to $60 while CAC stays at $12 (because the same ad that drives one customer now drives the same customer to spend more). Ad cost as % of revenue is now 20% — your ROAS just doubled. This is why high-AOV stores can outbid low-AOV stores on the same ad platform.
The Six Proven AOV-Lifting Tactics
1. Product bundles. Sell three related products for $79 instead of one for $29. The bundle saves the customer ~15% versus buying separately, but lifts your AOV 2.7× and your profit per order 2–3×.
2. Free shipping threshold. Set the threshold at 1.3× your current AOV. Customers will add a $10 item to hit it. Net effect: AOV rises ~30%, you eat slightly more shipping cost, profit per order rises.
3. Order bumps. A pre-checkout checkbox offering a $9 add-on (extended warranty, gift wrap, related small item) typically converts at 20–30%. Pure margin.
4. Post-purchase upsells. After checkout, offer a one-click upsell at a discount. Converts at 10–20% with zero additional acquisition cost.
5. Volume discounts. "Buy 2 get 10% off, buy 3 get 15% off." Lifts AOV and clears inventory.
6. Tiered pricing. Three tiers where the middle tier is positioned as the best value (the decoy effect). The middle tier wins 60–70% of buyers, lifting AOV.
